Digital Libraries

NATIONAL SCIENCE DIGITAL LIBRARY:
NSDL was established by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2000 as an online library which directs users to exemplary resources for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and research. NSDL provides an organized point of access to STEM content that is aggregated from a variety of other digital libraries, NSF-funded projects, and NSDL-reviewed web sites. NSDL also provides access to services and tools that enhance the use of this content in a variety of contexts.

GOOGLE SCHOLAR:
Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations. Google Scholar helps you identify the most relevant research across the world of scholarly research.

History of Science

EVOLUTION:
A collection of historical materials related to evolution, based on the idea that: "To really understand evolution we must first understand the historical development of ideas on evolution. But to really understand its history, we must first understand evolution."

GALTON:
Francis Galton (1822-1911) was a Victorian polymath: geographer, meteorologist, tropical explorer, founder of differential psychology, inventor of fingerprint identification, pioneer of statistical correlation and regression, convinced hereditarian, eugenicist, proto-geneticist, half-cousin of Charles Darwin and best-selling author. This web site offers a large selection of Galton-related material. Almost all of Galton's scientific papers and essays (about 300 in number) are also republished here in facsimile form, as are all his book-length works.

ECHO:
The ECHO research center catalogues, annotates, and reviews sites on the history of science, technology, and industry.

MEDICINE:
Interesting material on the history of medicine, including some detailed timelines.

Electronic Publishing

HIGHWIRE PRESS:
HighWire Press, from the Stanford University Library, publishes a collection of high-impact frequently cited journals in the biomedical sciences.

J ELECTRONIC PUB:

Project Gutenberg makes information, books and other materials available to the general public in forms a vast majority of the computers, programs and people can easily read, use, quote, and search.

On-Line Resource Guides

BIO GATEWAY:
Molecular Biology Gateway to the WWW -- The ultimate gateway to Web resources for molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and biochemistry.

Museums

AMNH:
American Museum of Natural History

SMITHSONIAN:
Smithsonian Institution.

Databases

FLYBASE:
FlyBase is a comprehensive database for information on the genetics and molecular biology of Drosophila.
